The main feature of our business
on which we win customers is the quality of our plants.
These are some of the aspects which contribute to this success.
• We use the best quality seeds from
the world’s top breeders. Our suppliers include Ball
Colegrave of California, Sakata of Japan and the Dutch suppliers
Florensis and Syngenta.
• We
sow 85% of our own seed. We use a drum seeder and a
natural seeder, which allow us better control of the quality
of our crop.
• We operate programmed pest and disease control,
geared to the requirements of each individual crop. Thorough
pest and disease control checks are carried
out on a regular cycle.
• Growth
regulators are used, to control crop uniformity.
• A controlled release fertiliser, such
as Osmocote is used in most of our
products, to improve shelf life and other properties.
• In our
nursery the product is hardened off in the correct conditions
pre-planting, ensuring each plant is robust and strong.
• We can grow in peat based, peat reduced and
peat free compost. Different management techniques
are required for each of these, to deliver the quality of product
required by customers who wish to specify the level of peat
to be used in the process.
• We use
the latest technology for plant growing. We are subscribers
to the Horticultural Development Council and
make regular visits to seed and system suppliers to ensure we
are aware of the latest developments.
• Across our staff, we have developed a huge bank of skill,
knowledge and expertise. We combine the two fundamental sources
of knowledge - experience and technical education – and
keep this current by attendance at seminars and visits to the
leading seed suppliers.
